Santander's Corporate Social Responsibility program includes social investments, charitable contributions, volunteer engagement and corporate sponsorships. The Director, Philanthropy manages the team responsible for charitable contributions and philanthropic strategy in the US, including grants made under Santander Bank, N.A.'s Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) program. S/he leads corporate charitable giving, including setting annual philanthropic priorities, building external relationships with current and prospective grantees, and managing the grant making process from sourcing applications through grant reporting. The incumbent leads philanthropic program implementation in the United States with Santander Bank, N.A. Commercial and Consumer and Business Banking units and Santander Holdings business units. S/he develops strategic initiatives to drive Santander's Corporate Social Responsibility strategy in the U.S.
Leads a team of grant developers responsible for evaluating and recommending grants to senior management committees, developing relationships with grantees and ensuring accurate grant reporting.
Develops and implements annual philanthropic strategies and strategic grant making initiatives, ensuring the Bank is responsive to community needs. Manages the Bank's signature small business education program.
Manages a grant and sponsorship budget of approximately $11mm annually which includes, budget tracking, payment processing and management reporting.
Ensures accurate data reporting for management and regulatory reporting. Prepares monthly and quarterly management reporting and ensures grantees submit interim and annual reports.
Manages the grant and sponsorship agreement process including working with Legal to ensure adequate grant agreement provisions.
Participates in the Bank's annual CRA self-assessment by process by documenting how grants meet community needs and writing summaries of significant community partnerships.
Promotes internal and external visibility of community partnerships by working with Marketing and Communications on internal articles, press releases and social media opportunities.
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
Minimum 10 years experience managing philanthropic programs in corporations or private foundations or managing community development programs including leading teams.
Minimum 5 years CRA related grant making experience preferred.
Strong program administrator with the ability to manage complex initiatives with multiple stakeholders, large budgets and management and board reporting.
Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to present to executive leadership, and internal and external audiences.
Ability to lead and inspire teams.
Strategic thinking and communication skills with the ability to design effective philanthropic initiatives.
Financial management and reporting skills including the ability to manage large budgets
Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration with a range of stakeholders including business units, community partnership managers and not-for-profit partners.
Excellent marketing and communication skills including the ability to develop internal and external messaging and materials
Proficiency with MS Office and Project Management Tools. (Clarity, Visio, Excel, MS Project, etc.)
