Job Description:

The Director, IT Risk & Business Mgmt. is a senior management position responsible for many of the critical planning, financial, risk management and control/reporting functions for the CIO/Technology Leader. This leadership role reports directly to the CIO and fills a critical “chief of staff/COO” function supporting a CIO team made up of approx. 130 employees and 130 contractors with approx. $130 million annual cash spend. This role demands a very broad set of senior IT and business mgmt. skills with the ability to act as the CIO’s trusted advisor, and interact effectively with senior Business leaders. This position will be responsible for managing and leading a team of 8-10 resources.

Specifically, the Director will have accountability to lead a team to perform the following functions:

  • Governance, Risk, Compliance – establish a proactive risk identification and control environment to ensure application and process risks are known, controlled, and remediated

  • Manage governance routines

  • Adoption/control of technology standards and policies

  • Risk Identification and Assessment

  • Risk response/remediation co-ordination, reporting and monitoring

  • Support central teams in assessments, testing, audits and exams

  • Project Mgmt. Governance – establish an effective PMO control function to understand what projects are starting, monitor execution, and ensure compliance with project mgmt. standards

  • Govern portfolio and project planning

  • Monitor and report project level performance

  • Control project execution compliance

  • Financial Governance – work with the CIO and across the leadership team to ensure the overall financial targets are met, and proactive / corrective action taken

  • Budgeting and Planning

  • Funding and expense approval

  • Forecasting & reporting

  • Cost efficiency initiatives

  • Personnel Governance – work with the CIO and leadership team to define the skills required /skill gaps throughout the team, and the staffing mix targets to achieve

  • Headcount planning, requests

  • Skills and training plans required

  • Org chart control, onboarding/offboarding control

  • Events and Communications

  • Third Party Governance – work with the CIO and the leadership team to ensure effective service planning and monitoring across all third parties, and driving proactive contract renewals

  • Support central teams in third party assessments

  • Drive efficiencies for third party contracts and renewals

  • Control service monitoring and reporting

  • Overall portfolio management -

  • Partner with the CIO and leadership team to prepare and present regular operating reports to executives in the Business

  • Co-ordinate cross portfolio planning, initiatives and operating changes

  • Other assigned tasks as required

The role is hands on and closely aligned with the CIO and technology leadership team. The role also has a functional reporting alignment to the overall Technology COO.

The Director is expected to develop strong working relationships with key internal stakeholders in the Technology organization as well as in other units including but not limited to Finance, Human Resources, Contracts, and Operational Risk. The Director engages with other central risk/control teams to align activities such as IT Risk, Third Party Risk Mgmt., and Info-Security.

Qualifications

Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Core background:

  • Proven senior leader and trusted advisor to CIO level executive

  • Effective leader with the ability to interact effectively with senior Business leaders

  • Advanced and broad mix of Technology and Business Mgmt. skills

  • At least 10 years’ experience in positions related to IT Governance/Risk & Compliance, PMO governance, financial/business analysis

  • Knowledge of the Financial Services industry and regulatory environment from an IT perspective

  • MBA preferred. Bachelor or Equivalent from top-tier school

  • Core experience for the specific role

  • Solid IT Risk experience

  • Ability to drive process simplification / process documentation / governance routines

  • Experience in PMO governance set up / Run a PMO

  • Financial planning, budgeting and forecasting experience

  • Third party contracting experience

  • Lead a team of professionals

  • Professional skills and capabilities

  • Ability to discuss & present complex strategic topics at a senior management level

  • Ability to handle multi-tasking environment, meet deadlines, and work with a wide range of sensitive and confidential issues

  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated solid analytical, presentation, verbal, interpersonal, negotiation skills

  • Proven skills in creation & writing compelling storylines, both in slide and text formats

  • Experience in working within fast-paced, complex, dynamic, multi-cultural business environment

  • Proven ability to build relationships at all levels within an organization and comfort working in a non-hierarchical environment

  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical ability

  • Proactive ability to bring forward solutions
